They all have something in common and it’s not about having two words. They all signify the end of something. But whenever something ends, it also means a new beginning.
Are you starting anew this year?
I am thankful for the Christmas season and the New Year. Not because of the long vacation break and the overflowing food and drinks plus the presents too. I’m thankful for the New Year for a chance to start anew.
We measure our lives by the number of years that we go through. That’s why we welcome each New Year that arrives. That’s also why we celebrate birthdays.
How did you go through the year 2008?
Was it full of accomplishments? Did you reach your targets and your quotas? Did you get the raise and the promotion you were aiming for? Did you buy the gadgets you were drooling for?
How were you hit by the Recession? Was 2008 a year of struggling and losses for you? Was it full of heartaches and depression?
Some people in the business sector are already committing suicide because of the emotional trauma that the recession causes.
In spite of all this, what made 2008 meaningful?
Not meaningful for the world. Not for your friends or for the rest of society. What made 2008 meaningful for you?
Let’s celebrate our past accomplishments and look forward to a future with hope. The year 2009 might be difficult. But let us all measure our lives for what truly matters.
After all, a year is but another number that we track in our lives. Like birthdays and anniversaries. But our lives should not be measured in number of years but in the number of lives we touch, in the number of meaningful pursuits we have. In the meaningful changes we’ve made to the world!

A toast to a brighter future ahead!
