13-degree Thoracic Scoliosis, Back Exercises and Workout
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009After a bit of a heavy workout about three weeks ago, I felt some back pains. I ignored it, thinking it was just muscle fatigue. I was wrong.
After almost two weeks since I felt the back pains, I decided to go to see a doctor, got an X-ray, waited for a day. And then got the surprise of my life for the year 2009. I have got Scoliosis! Yup, my backbone is arched in a not-so-good way, and that might even cause some pain in my back.
Here’s the diagnosis of the doctor:
1. No fracture, spondylolisthesis, lytic or reactive changes seen in the thoracic lumbar and sacral spine.
2. Pedicles and intervertebral spaces are intact.
3. Dextroscoliosis of the thoracic spine with an angle of curvature of about 13 degrees.
4. Soft tissues outlines and the rest of the visualized bones are unremarkable.
My initial reaction was shock and worry. Do I have to stop working out and lifting weights? Do I need to get some supporting gear or equipment? To be honest, I stopped working out for more than a week now because I was worried. But I got over my worry and started to list down a number of lessons I have to remember.
